Ford GoBike Riders Data Jan. 2019 & Jupyter Notebooks

Image
I have been thinking about personal projects to undertake to learn more about Jupyter Notebooks, Numpy, Pandas, etc.  I have decided to start looking at Bike data from Ford GoBike.  I got interested in this project based on a Berkeley online class on Python.  It used Bike sharing data from the San Francisco area.  I eventually found data on Ford GoBike by doing a similar search. Here is the Ford GoBike website:  I am still working on the analysis.  I will not show all code to this project for three reasons.   The first is that this is a learning project so not all the code and visual styles are mine.  When needed I search the internet for code, best practices and references. So I can not claim that all of this is my work. For me, the first goal is to learn to use Juypter Notebooks better by working on a project. In order to learn, I need to learn from other. That being said,  I have encountered many problems during the way...

Are there 3 worlds ?- Tableau Exercise

My colleagues and I run a Tableau training session for executives. During our introduction to Tableau part, we generally like to work with world data. One of the exercises we do tests the participant's knowledge of global  facts.  This is related to Hans Rosling's book "Factfulness". One question, we ask the participants is whether the world should be classified as 1st world, 2nd world, and 3rd world.  We explore this Tableau visual using data from Gapminder during this activity. The video below shows life expectancy and fertility rates for each country from 1950-2018. Most executives have never used Tableau before so the visual really surprises them. It is best to view the video using "full screen".

Blackjack Game Final Version

This is the final version of my Blackjack game.  The major difference between the final version and an earlier version is the Ace card.  In the final version, the Ace card can either have a value of 1 or 10. This depends on the value of the hand. Below is the code used for the Ace card: if 'A' in c_ranks and self.hand_value +10 <= 21:             self.hand_value = sum(h_val) + 10         else:             self.hand_value = sum(h_val) You can see the final version in the video. Here is the grading rubric which describe how the game was graded: You must implement the rules of Blackjack specified in this description. • 1 pt - The program displays the title "Blackjack" on the canvas. • 1 pt - The program displays 3 buttons ("Deal", "Hit" and "Stand") in the control area. • 2 pts - The program graphically displays the player's hand using card images. (1 pt if text is disp...

Latest Asteroids/ Rice Rocks version

Image
This is the latest version of Asteriods /Rice Rocks using SimpleGui.  As you can see from the picture, the missile (blue stars) don't disappear. I will need to work on this for the next version. In this version, there is no score. The only thing that has been added is the collision between the asteroids and the ship.  Each time the ship collies with an asteroid. The lives count is dropped by 1. Since I haven't put a floor for the number of lives, the game will continue forever. I should also note that in this version, I have included an image at the start of the game.  This image was given to me by the professors. You can see the game in the attached video:

Final Version -Memory Game

This is the final version of the memory game.  I submitted it for grading last week and did well. The problem with the online class is that I try to finish 90% of the projects before I submit them for grading.  This causes me to take more time to do the class.  I am constantly having to switch sessions. It also means that when I do finally decide to submit the project I have to go back over all the code. The moral of the story is always write detailed comments in your code.

Asteroids (Rice Rocks) in Python version 2

This is the latest version of my asteroids game.  In this version, I have the ship moving, the asteroids being created in random places every few seconds and ship being able to fire missiles from the top of the ship. I also included score and lives counters. (See the video. It includes sounds) This is all I needed to do for this part of the project.  In the next part of the project, I will try to finish the game. My notes for finishing version 3 are below.

Introduction to Flask

Image
This is my first attempt at using Flask with web pages. I am using Flask from Team Treehouse.  I have finished the courses on HTML& CSS and HTTP.  I liked the HTML &CSS course but did not really enjoy the course on HTTP.  Eventually, I hope to start developing my own websites with Flask and Python.
